Alex Iwobi posts throwback photo of himself wearing an Arsenal kit as a child as he celebrates 22nd birthday

Alex Iwobi celebrated turning 22 on Wednesday with a throwback photo showing how far he's come since he joined the Arsenal youth system 16 years ago. 
Iwobi began training with the Gunners at the age of six, progressing through the age groups before making his first-team debut in the League Cup back in October 2015. 
And the Nigerian took to Instagram to put his progress into some perspective with an image of himself posing in an Arsenal shirt, from the 2002-03 season.

The young Iwobi wears a cheeky grin while perched on a ball during his time in the Arsenal academy - where he was almost released during his teenage years due to concerns over his physique. 
Iwobi burst into the first team after his debut against Sheffield Wednesday and made his first Premier League appearance just four days later in a home clash with Swansea.
The winger has been heavily involved in Arsenal's 2017-18 campaign so far making 35 appearances and played the full 90 minutes in Sunday's 2-1 defeat by Manchester United. 
Iwobi will be hoping for an involvement in Arsenal's Europa League semi-final second leg clash with Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Thursday evening.

He was an unused substitute in Arsenal's 1-1 draw in the first leg, which leaves them with a daunting task to reach the final against either Marseille or Red Bull Salzburg. 
Their opponents Atletico will be without the presence of manager Diego Simeone on the touchline after he was dismissed after protesting a decision in the 11th minute of the Emirates first leg. 
The Gunners are keen to give outgoing manager Arsene Wenger a perfect send-off by winning the Europa League after he announced he would be stepping down at the end of the season. 
Wenger's side are currently languishing in sixth place in the Premier League meaning winning the Europa League is the only way they can qualify for the Champions League for next season.
